The Lightning is Berkeley Lights' desktop instrument to grow, assay and recover single cells. This advanced microfluidic device can sort and export colonies of cells that are grown and tested under a microscope. Combined with the automated software workflows, it allows researchers to screen the phenotypes of thousands of cells in days rather than weeks.
I joined the team and designed hardware for major modules of the system including the reagent and chip user interfaces, the electronics and microfluidics that enable the system to incubate cell cultures and various industrial design elements.
